XB-1 Gets Approval for Supersonic Flight
A couple of weeks ago, I shared in a post titled “Too Cool for Words” the video of the first flight of the new XB-1 supersonic jet.
On April 16, Boom, the developer of the XB-1 received the first-ever Special Flight Authorization (SFA) to Exceed Mach 1 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The press release notes that 10 to 20 test flights will be conducted to assess the XB-1’s flight characteristics before the first Mach run.
The XB-1 is a test aircraft that will lead to the development of the Overture, billed as the world’s fastest airliner.
