My father was an enlisted sailor in the Navy in the early 1950s. He had five brothers who fought in WWII (all came home) and felt the family obligation to serve.
He was incredibly proud of his military service. He was a member of the American Legion for over 70 years. He loved telling stories of his Navy days. He was an aircraft mechanic and crew chief on fighters on an aircraft carrier, and later, he crew chiefed a cargo aircraft flying out of Norfolk.
Dad passed away in April this year at age 91. His birthday is December 18, so thoughts of him were in front of mind this week.
He was buried at the local Veterans cemetery. The Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery was developed a decade ago and dedicated in 2016. My Dad was one of the first in the area to reserve a plot in the cemetery. As I said, he was very proud of his military service.
This past week, wreaths were laid at the headstones of those interred in the cemetery. My brother took this picture.

I come from a military also. I thank You Tim and your father for your service to our country. There is no nobler profession than to defend ones nation. May you and your family have a very Merry Christmas.
