If you have been around here for a while, you know I am very interested in Boom Supersonic and the company’s path to building a new supersonic transport jet.
The company has built a small, test-bed jet, dubbed the XB-1. It appears to be a single-seat aircraft. The XB-1’s first flight was in March. Now Boom has released a video of the second flight, which is the first time the landing gear was retracted.
I have a couple of comments.
Three engines with three afterburners. It’s an interesting configuration in a jet this small.
After the gear is sucked up (official pilot talk), that is a very good-looking jet! It looks like it wants to go fast.
Over time, they will build up to supersonic flight. I look forward to watching the journey.
Check out the video below.
Let me know your thoughts on my post!
the vortices from the tyres on the is a nice visual detail
The rest of the one minute video is like tachistoscope training in airplane recognition. Only tantalizing.
Which, I suppose, is what they intended.
If you pause the video at the 18 second mark, you can clearly see two canopies open and two ladders, suggesting to me, a two man crew.
